BIG DEVELOPMENT SCHEME UNDER DISCUSSION (PRISB ASSOCIATION TELIOEAVI.) WAIROA, March 30. On Saturday representatives of the Wairoa and Gisborne harbour boards met to consider a proposal to amalgamate, The two boards purpose developing Waikokoou as the main port for the whole east coast. Strong arguments were placed before the Gisborne delegates by the local representatives, who submitted a report from Mr G. Holderness, engineer to the Auckland Harbour Board, which stated that for an expenditure Of £60,000 a port could be established to accommodate a Home vessel, thus cutting out lighterage and other charges and considerable additional handling. It was stated that a further. reasonable amount of accommodation could bo provided for all Home boats at present working the east coast. After hearing the Wairoa side’s case the meeting adjourned to enable the Gisborne delegates to place the matters discussed before their board. Later a further meeting will be held to consider the Gisborne Board’s deci* sion. • ' ■ •
