The annual meeting of the Temuka branch of the .Labour party was held with Mr T. H. Langford presiding. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr Langford expressed his thanks to the -women’s committee for the assistance given in his election campaign. The election *of officers resulted: — President, Mr T. H. Langford; vicepresident, Mr M. Kennedy; secretary, Mr J. H. Forrester; executive, Messrs C. Bell, J. P. Boyd, A. W. Buzan. L. Heap, J. N. McLeod. P. O’Connor, and L. Stcry, delegates to Labour Representation Committee, president, vicepresident, and secretary; delegates to annual conference at Wellington, Mr Langford. . A recommendation whs made to the incoming executive that meetings should be held every month, and- a syllabus drawn up for the year. HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ANNUAL MEETING CONCLUDED YESTERDAY The annual sports of the Temuka District High School were concluded yesterday afternoon in brilliant weather. He will be replaced by a member of the bank’s, staff from Lawrence. Waitohi Women’s Institute The. annual meeting of the Waitohi Women's Institute was held recently with Mrs Nolan presiding. A vote of sympathy with the relatives of Mrs G- Kerslake, a well-known resident of the district, who died recently, was passed, members standing in silence. The election of officers resulted;— President, Mrs G. Mathieson; vicepresidents, Mesdames W. Moore and Nolan; secretary, Mrs H. Johnson. It was decided to apply for a boy at the half-yearly meeting at Geraldine; Mrs J. Lyon and Miss M. Moore to take charge. . Competitions resulted: ~ Senior, marble cake, Mrs Lyon 1 and 2, Mrs Pearse 3; toffee, Mesdames Doherty and Nolan (equal) 1; worked tea towel,, Mrs Nolan 1, Mrs Pearse 2. Junior:—Toffee, Miss M. Doherty 1; worked tea towel. Miss M. Stratford 1. WINCHESTER WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The fifth annual meeting of the Winchester Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs T. H. Langford (president). , , , . . The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The credit balance on the year’s activities showed an increase of £2 3s on the previous year. Mrs J. C. South and Mrs J. L. Greenall were elected to take charge of the bay at the Geraldine Federation at the half-yearly meeting. Mesdames D A. Pear:e and J. De Renzy were elected delegates to attend the federation meeting. , , , ‘ The following officers were elected. President, Mrs D. A, Pearce; viceprsident, Mrs T. H. Langford; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mrs O. S. Priest; assistant-secretary, Mrs J. C. South; comimttee, Mesdames W. A. Gudsell, J. S. Smith, H. Oldham, D. London, W. J. Jackson, J. De Renzy, and Miss B. Wilks. Mesdames J. C,. South and W. A, Gudsell were appointed a sick visiting committee. Mesdames R. A. Teller, C. J. L. McBratney, and Miss Mavis Gudsell were elected new members. Competition for premier blooms, Mrs J. S, Smith 1, Miss Doreen Opie 2, Mrs De Renzy 3. The retiring committee were hostesses. • GYMKHANA AT ST. ANDREWS DATE OF MEETING FIXED FOR APRIL 11 A public meeting, to discuss the holding of a rodeo and gymkhana, was held in the St. Andrews Public Hall, and enthusiasticaliy supported. A unanimous decision to hold the rodeo and gymkhana was passed, the funds to be devoted to the Public Hall. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr A. Woods; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. H. Smith; assistantsecretary, Mr P. F. Dix; committee, Messrs P. F. Dix, R. D. Smith, P. O’Loughlin, S. Smith, L. Edwards, C, Edwards, Leckie, G. King, H. O’Neill, F. D. Martin, F. Evans, J. R. Trimble, T. Newbegin, T. O’Loughlin, H. Edwards, B. Hutton. J. Wilson, L. A. O’Loughlin, W. Nicol, D. Stowell, and E. G. Coles. The meeting decided to hold the rodeo on April 11. A comprehensive programme was drawn up. Officials were appointed as follows: —Horse events, Messrs S. Winchester, F. D. Martin, and F. Evans; steer riding, Messrs E. G. Coles and S. Winchester: novelty events, Messrs D. Stowell. S. Smith, A. Leckie, J. R. Trimble, T. O’Loughlin, and L. Edwards; dog trials, Messrs P. O’Loughlin. T. Newbegin, and F. Martin; children’s races, Messrs T. Stowell, J, Beattie and F, D. Martin; track races, Messrs H. O’Neill and W. Nicol; dance committee, Messrs G. King, A. Leckie, F. D. Martin, G. H. Smith, H. O’Neill. P. F. Dix, and H. Edwards. Otalo Women’s Division
At the March meeting of the Otaio branch of the Women's Division, Mrs H. B. S. Johnstone presided over a good attendance of members. A most interesting 1 travel talk was given by Mr H. B. S. Johnstone, who also showed members photographs taken on a trip through France, Italy, and other countries. Mr Johnstone.was accorded a vote of thanks. It was decided to have a first birthday party, arrangements to be made at the next meeting. . Competitions resulted:—Best Bloom: Mrs E, S. Johnstone 1. Miss Draffin 2; sponge roll: Miss Drafiln 1, Mrs East 2; pot of app’3 jelly: Miss Draffin 1, Miss E. Martin 2. The hostesses for the afternoon were the Misses Martin.
