: ——♦ PRELIMINARY HEARING CONCLUDED (PUSS ASSOCIATION TBLEGBAM.) DUNEDIN, March 27. The H preliminary hearing of the charge of murder arising out of the death of William Beatty at Waitepeka, South Otago, on February 22, was concluded yesterday at Balclutha, before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., the accused, Hugh Urquhart Neil Gunn, being committed to the Supreme Court for trial. The evidence of eight witnesses was taken. It was alleged that after a dispute over Gunn’s right to use a roadway through Beatty’s property, Gunn hit Beatty on the head with a heavy manuka stick, .causing injuries which resulted in Beatty’s death about six hours later.
