MYSTERY TRAMPING EXCURSION

VISIT TO MOUNT WINTERSLOW AND SHARPLIN FALLS Owing to the wet weather on March 8. it was found necessary to postpone the mystery tramping excursion arranged for that date to Sharphn Falls arid Mount Winterslow. It has now been decided to hold the tramp on Sunday. April 5. A . , , The train will leave Christchurch at 8.25 a.m. Passengers from Ashburton and Timaru will ioin the train at Ashburton, the trains leaving Ashburton at 10.18 a.m. and Timaru at .7.40 a.m. An attractive and interesting walk of approximately eight miles has been arranged for moderate trampers to Sharplin Falls, but a longer and more arduous tramp is available for tramping clubs and others; this is to the summit of that well-known Mount Winterslow. The main walk is not strenuous and leads through some very fine native bush and along a mountain stream. On this walk a beautiful panorama of the Spririgburn, Mount Somers, and Methven districts may be obtained. As it may be necessary to ford a small stream on the way to and from Sharplin Falls, trampers are advised to provide themselves with an extra pair of stockings. It is, however, anticipated that the stream will be easily fordable by April 5. Hot water, tea. milk, and sugar will be provided for luncheon and tea, which will be taken beside a mountain stream. . In addition to catering for tramping patrons, the excursion will also provide an opportunity visitors, from Christchurch, Ashburton, and Timaru to visit their soldier friends at the Mount Somers military .camp. to convey them by bus from Springburn to the starting point of the climb, and thus avoid all road walking, at a fare of Is return.
