BOWLS

ELDERLY PLAYERS* DAY

CHANGES IN T&E GAME

Only a few years ago, to have called bowlers elderly would have been just a kindlier description of extreme old age. But the years have brought changes. Bowls is no longer considered exclusively a game for the old. It is a frequent observation these days that more and more young men may. be seen on city greens. ;. Yesterday a day for elderly bowlers whs held on the United green* who attended, the green, expecting to indulge a* sense of humour Jn.toe spectacle of the aged in action, wouhLceftainly have had their expectations mocked. For elderly bowlers now are no more than elderly; t-id some of the 100 players yesterday might have been with reason displeased at insistence upon that term. There were grey heads to be seen, and blazers of which the faded colours betrayed, the owners sentimental attachment. But there were no complaining bones on the green, nor any lack of zest. , „ „ Results of the day’s play follow, names of skips only being given:—J. Kingsland 28, J. Brandon 14; A. Cooper 25. T.
