A CHINESE BRIDGE
TO TUB EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir.—ln one of our suburban streets here in Christchurch, we have a very good representation of » Chinese bridge If anyone doubts this statement, let him or her drive north along Chrystall street, off North Avon road, some dark night at a brisk pace, and he will get the surprise of his life. Where the local creek crosses this street, the road takes a sudden curve skywards, and still curving, drops as suddenly on the other side. To a motorist unacquainted with the locality, especially one in a hurry, it is a positive danger. There used to be a somewhat similar crossing in Petrie street, but when it was reconstructed a year or so ago, the danger spot was eliminated; and it is about time that Chrystall street was treated similarly. I drove along there this morning for the first time, and was astounded to find that such an Oriental construction still existed in our fair city.—Yours, etc,. MOTQ March 14, 1936.
