ITALIAN ADVANCE
ACTIVITY ON TWO FRONTS DESSIE, March 13. Italian aeroplanes have twice bombed Quoram in the last 24 hours. A communique issued from Rome reports that troops advancing on the northern front have reached the Alkadra 'region. The air force bombed important concentrations of Abyssinians south of Quoram. Air activity also continues on the Somali front.
MOVEMENTS OF TROOPS WIDE FRONT COVERED (Received March 15, 8 p.m.) LONDON, March 14. Telegrams from Asmara confirm reports of an unresisted Italian advance through submissive tribesmen on a 230-mile front across northern Abyssinia. The First Army Corps, on the* left, moved from Amba Alagi towards Lake Ashangi, the Third Army Corps, in the centre, towards Socota, and mixed columns, on the right, along the Soudan border towards Nogara, 30 mU es south of the Setit river. This is flanking the advance of the Fourth Army Corps through Woldebba, west of Takazze, and the Second Army Corps in Tsellemti, north of the Semien ranges. MORE MEN CALLED UP NUMBER UNDER ARMS IS NOW 1,250,000 (Received March 15, 8 p.m.) ROME, March 14. Italy has called up the 1915 class of 260,000 conscripts. The total number under arms is now 1,250,000. Confident of shattering the remaining Abyssinian defences, Signor Mussolini will not meanwhile launch peace negotiations. Prince Umberto has been promoted to the command of the Naples Army Corps. Lieutenant Vittorio and Sergeant Bruno, Mussolini’s sons, have been, awarded silver medals for gallantry. v _■ ABYSSINIAN ARMY CHANGE A NEW COMMANDER (Received March 15, 8 p.m.) ADDIS ABABA, March 14. Ras Ebada, the former. Governor of Dessie, has taken over the command and . reorganising of Ras Mulugheta’s army. M. Afewerk, after a conference with the Emperor, has gone to Geneva on a secret mission.
