Mr G. Brooke, of the staff of the Lyttelton Post Office, is to leave Lyttelt6n to-day to take up Ms duties as postmaster at Tapanui. He will be succeeded at Lyttelton by Mr G. Q. Carter, of Tadmore. Mr R. S. Suckling, also of the staff of the Lyttelton Post Office, has be*n transferred to Wellington, and will be succeeded by Mr J. C. K. Inns, of Palmerston North.

Ketch Returns from -Cruise

The auxiliary ketch Friendship, owned by Mr T. T. Gough, returned to Lyttelton on Saturday morning from a three-weeks’ pleasure cruise of the northern sounds, With the owner # and a party of friends aboard, the Friendship left Lyttelton on .the night of February 23, Arriving at Tory Channel the next , night,., thick fog was encountered apd the ketcn .had to keep to sea for the night, entering the channel the following morning. Queen Charlotte Sound, Picton, Pelorous Sound, Stephen Island, Port Hardy, Nelson, Astrolabe Roads, Torrent Bay, Farewell Spit, Separation Island, Tonga Anchorage, Sandy Bay, Nelson, .and Waikawa Bay were among the places visited, and the Friendship returned through the French Pass ty Picton. Leaving Picton at 11.0 pan. on Thursday, the ketch made a non-stop run to Lyttelton, where she arrived at 4.0 a.m. on Saturday. During the cruise the 1 vessel logged 802 miles. Although the Friendship met with heavy rain and rough weather for a few days, all. on board thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Power-Boat Race Pour launches started in the powerboat race lield by the’Banks Peninsula Cruising Club from Lyttelton to Port Levy on Saturday afternoon, for the Kennett Cup. The start was at 3.38 p.m. and the boats had a following wind and sea until turning Adderley Head and from then till the finish had a strong south-west wind and sea against them. The starters were:—Patari (O. Barnes) Igmin; Islay (R. Kennett), 11 min; Omarama (W. Toomey), llmin; Pacific (C. A. Curtis), llmin. Rounding the whistling buoy the boats were severely buffeted In a heavy sea. The result was;— Pacific .. .. •• 1 Omarama .. ..2 Islay .. •• 3 Patari .. • .; ..4 The winner’s time was 51 minutes 45 seconds. * Lodge Meeting At a meeting of Coprt Queen of the Isles Foresters’ Lodge, Bro. worth presided over a good attendance; Sick pay and one maternity claim were passed for payment. Worthy Bro. E. Rudkin, district ritual supervisor, paid a visit to the court, and was given a hearty welcome by the G.R. Arrangements were made for the court .officers and members to pay a visit to Court Papanui next week. One new candidate was proposed for membership. Personal Mr Andrew Andefsbn, master of the passenger launch Matariki, is a patient in the Christchurch Public Hospital. Sailing After a postponement some weeks ago because of heavy rain, the annual race for the Beryl Stacey trophy was held by the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Association at Lyttelton on Saturday afternoon under boisterous conditions. The race is for yachts of 13 feet and, over and there were 11 starters. Commencing in a strong and flukey north-wester, the race finished in a howling south-wester, with a considerable sea running, and there were several 'capsizes. After rounding the pile light in the first round, the smaller boats set their spinnakers forward and were soon giving a fine exhibition of planing. The 14-footer Jean was in the lead when her spinnaker skied. She flew along at a terrific’ speed and threatened to plough under, but R. Hendry kept her upright and soon regained control. She wasjoon overtaken by Avenger, carrying % heavier crew. In the strong wind the keel class yachts were at a disadvantage as they could not use their spinnakers on the run. They made good time’ on the beat. Avenger, however, managed to keep ahead of Pastime, the leader of the keelers.' In the second round the 20-foot yacht Caprice took the lead. Avenger was hit by a squall and forced to strike her mainsail and retire. Pastime had difficulty in turning the pile at th« end of the first round and Was twice flattened out by squalls.
