In November last, during the absence of Mr Thomas Yarr from his home in Wai-iti road, the place was entered and jewellery valued at £303 was stolen, including a lady's bracelet valued at £SO won.by his racehorse as a trophy, and two diamond rings valued at £SO and £45 respectively. A house in Nile street was also entered and clothing valued at £3O was stolen. The police yesterday arrested two brothers and a young woman for the crimes, and to-day, before Mr D. McLennan, J.R. and Mr J. M. Jenkins, J.P., Charles William Brodie, aged 23, a young woman, aged 18, whose name was suppressed, and Phillip Geoffrey Btodie, aged '27, appeared i in the Magistrate's Court. Charles Brodie was,charged with receiving a diamond ring valued at £SO, the property of Thomas Yarr, knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained, the girl was charged with receiving a jumper valued at 18s 6d, the property of Edith Mildred Calder,- knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained, and Philip Brodie was charged with stealing a wristlet watch, valued at £2, the property of Ivy Gertrude Khowles. Detective E. M. Thomas, in applying for the accused to be remanded till Thursday next, said that Mr A. D. Mcßae had been asked to appear for the girl, but had had to go out of town. The girl's father had asked him to apply for suppression of her name. The girl's name was suppressed and she was allowed bail in her own recognisance of £SO. Charles Brodie's bond was fixed at £IOO in his own recognisance, with one surety of £IOO or two of £SO each. Bail for Philip Brodie was fixed at self £2OO, or two sureties of £IOO each, or one of £2OO. An order was made that the accused report, daily to the police.
