(SPBOAIi 70 TBI PRKIS.) TIMARU. March 13. The seventieth annual meeting of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held to-day, with Mr R. Guinness presiding. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, a summary of which has been published, the president said:'— **We commenced the year with a debit balance of £146 and finished «rfth a credit of £34. During the year £228 has been spent on the maintenance and good value has been received for this outlay. The loss of £lO2 for the year is brought about largely by the additional money expended in repairs. "During my year of office, I have been very much impressed by the wide •cope of this association's activities, which lie far beyond running the show and ram fair, and organising ewe hogget, fat lamb, and draught horse comrltlom, lam safe In saying that all forward movements agriculturally and pastorally. this association has been identified with, and has taken either a leading.or an active part in them all. The winter show project was launched by the Chamber of Commerce and ourselves, calling a public meeting, at which the Mayor of Timaru presided. This idea was taken up with enthusiasm, and with a capable organiser, and strong executive there is every indication that the show iwttl b« a success, and should be the means of bringing town and country interests more closely in touch with one another. Our association has been requesting the county council and the Highways Board to make a better stock route from Washdyke to the Smithfleld freezing works and abattoirs." The motion was seconded by Mr W. J. Baasett and carried. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted:Patron. Mr M. O'Connor; patronesses, Mesdames William Grant, R. H. Rhodes, ami T. Teschemaker; honorary treasurer. Mr T. Seaton: auditor. Mr A. C. Martin: committee. Messrs W. J. Basest!, 3. E. P. Cameron. J. Crawford, A. S. Elworthy, H. Elworthy, , Andrew Grant D. Grant R. Guinness, E. Hart, C. H. & Johnston. H. B. S. Johnstone, W. J. Keliand. R. Maddren, M. F. Maze, R. J. Murphy. G. McKeown, C. L. Orbell. W. H. Orbell, W. J. Parry, P. Porter. T. R. Rhodes, G. G. Rich, T. Seaton. P. R. Talbot. B. E. H. Tripp, A. Ward. Dr. P. R. Woodhouse. It was decided that the allocation at the disposal of the incoming committee be £2900. At a later meeting of the committee, over which Mr R. Guinness presided, Mr A. S. Elworthy was elected president The secretary (Mr H. H.
