"MY HOME"
. I live in the hills of North Canterbury. In a valley not far from my home is a beautiful, green bush, through which runs a sparkling stream with little ferns hanging over its rocky banks and nearly touching its clear waters. Above the stream the lovely golden kowhai tree sways gracefully in the breeze and the hau-hau, with its shiny, green leaves stands out against the sky, shading the" plants below. Among the trees the tom-tit whistles his piping song and the bellbird sings in her bell-like voice and sips the honey from the flowers, If I climb up Pendle Hill, which is behind our homestead and is 1700 feet above sea level, I can see the greenish-blue Hurunui river winding out to sea, where a small hill just divides it from the Blyth river. In the distance is Banks Peninsula, and 7 the flat-topped Motunau Island, which rises out of the sea, is not far from us. In the north are the white-capped Kaikoura mountains, shining in the sun.
