Mrs A. A. Macnab was the hostess at an enjoyable afternoon tea last I Thursday. The drawing room was deI corated with bowls of zinnias, asters, and carnations. Mrs Macnab wore a floral crepe de chine frock. Those present were Mrs P. Boyes (Nelson), Mrs A. H. Goyder, Mrs N. Boag, Mrs J. H.'Wadworth, Mrs T. Watts, and Mrs G. Mitchell, Misses M Macnab, I. Rutherford, M. Bell, and I. Horton. , , x ■ . , To celebrate her daughter Pamelas sixth birthday, Mrs C. Gibbs gave a pleasant children's party at her home in Maxwell road. Mrs Gibbs wore a green floral georgette frock, and Pamela a frock of blue organdie muslin. Tea was served in the dining room, .which was decorated with coloured balloons and the pink birthday cake with six candles. Those present were Brian and Roger Gibbs, Betty and Eric Chamberlain, Fay Jellyman, Norma Habone, Margot Reynolds, Dorothy Dickie, Joan Willet, Mary and Roland Cotter, Christine Mowat, Peggy Fenwick, Jeanette Robinson, and Peter McCallum. A surprise party was given by her friends to Miss Patricia Thomas, the occasion being her twenty-first birthday. A pleasant time was spent with music and games. Miss Thomas wore a frock of brown chiffon velvet. Those present were Mrs J. E. Thomas and Mrs H. Taylor, Misses Ellie Thomas, Gara Evatt, Amuri Neville, Mary Sinclair, Ngaire Taylor, E. Wintringham. FOR ST. JOSEPH'S FETE

The committee responsible for the sweets stall at the forthcoming St. Joseph's fete, held an enjoyable dance and euchre party ..t Mrs Ashby's home at Papanui. Competitions were won by Mesdames J Lawlor and Connell, Miss M, Ashby, Messrs Hijl and Ashby. Songs sung by Messrs P. Maguire and P. CARNIVAL DANCE An energetic committee which arranged a carnival dance at Canberra Hall was rewarded with an attendance pf 360, which ensured good financial results" towards the Linwood^Avenue School assembly hall funds. The War-ren-Brown orchestra, which gave,." 8 services, played'the music, and Miss Williams and Mr Suckling gave an exhibition dance, Mr T. Nuttall expressed i the thanks of the Linwood Avenue School Committee to , the orchestra and all those who had freely given their services, especially the ladies who had provided the refreshments.
