AN EDWARDIAN HOSTESS

It Was Such Fun. By Mrs Hwfa Williams. Hutchinson. 282 pp. (18/net.) Through Whitcombe and Tombs Ltd. The author of this delightful book was left an orphan at twelve and went to live with her grandfather Farcjuharson, in Dorset. At 18 she married Mr Hwfa Williams, whose relations were connected with many of the titled families of England, and was at once plunged into the gayest society of her time. She wfis brilliant and witty, and one gets a very intimate and vivid picture of all her life and the celebrities she meets as a notable Edwardian hostess. Her husband was a great racing enthusiast and was a great friend of both King Edward VII. and King George. The book is copiously illustrated with portraits of many of the people mentioned. Altogether it is very interesting reading, and seems assured of great success in the literature of social reminiscence.
