PRESIDENT SEEKS REELECTION
AMERICAN ADMINISTRATION DEFENDED (Received March 6, 9.52 p.m.) WASHINGTON, March 5. President Roosevelt formally became a candidate for re-election to the Presidency to-day, with the statement from the White House announcing that he had signed a petition to have his name on the ballots in.the primary elections in several States. It is regarded as a foregone conclusion that President Roosevelt will be the Democratic nominee. Mr Cordell Hull (Secretary of State) delivered an address at Baltimore, which is regarded as a formal opening of the election campaign by Cabinet members., , f .». In a broad defence of the Roosevelt administration; Mr Hull devoted considerable time to monetary matters, and issued what is tantamount to an invitation to other powers to join America in worldwide currency stabilisation.
