Met the 'twins at the edge of a magicaHake,... '• With a tsive . of- her. wand she . furnished a raft - . , Made of lilies,, the favourite of all fairy craft. Soon, soon they drew.near, to the opposite shore ‘ ■ The twins were astonished at what they both saw, • ' For Goblins and Gnomelets were flying around • . Each making a neat little hole in the ground. * They shook in some grains of some magical stuff, •. Then blew , down the hole with a pant and a puff, Then up popped the mushrooms, • some round as a ball, / Some spread like umbrellas,: some large and some small. They sprinkled on star-dust, and moonlgftams and dew,... They moulded and shaped them quite jperfect for you.
Then they were sure they had finished their job For fun they start playing a game called; #ap-frog. The twins were so thrilled at their wonderful treat And they, laughed as they said, "We’i¥‘ afraid of our feet,” Indeed it“'would be a great pity to tread'-' On a baby mushroom, or wee Gnomelefs head. Then fhe*Queen of the Mushrooms she said they must go, For the Crck In the barn yard had started to crow.
The Gnomelets all chorused “Must r : it be good night?” tome agawriittle mortals when thp moon's ishining bright. , —OLAN, Christchurch^
