PIGEON FLYING

EAST CHRISTCHURCH CLUB The East Christchurch Flying Pigeon Club opened its young bird season on Saturday with a race from Culverden. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster at 1 p.m. in fine weather. A strong wind which prevailed throughout the race made it hard for the youngsters. The winner was G, MacDougall’s Betty Stasstart, which flew the distance of 53 miles 38 yards in Ihr 40min Msec. Results:— Yds. a min. G. MacDougall’s Betty Stassart .. 930 A. Dunn’s Chum ..926 J. H. Beale’s Thorpe Shoty ~ 919 A. Green’s Popeye .. 917 R. V. Bradley’s 695 . .. 916 J. C. Rollon’s Airflow .. 908 L. Warren’s Gayboy .. 901 R. Moore’s Warcloud .. 896 G. MacDougall won the nominated bird prize. Next Saturday’s race will be from Parnassus-

SUMNER CLUB In their Dunsandel flight, the Sumner Club lost about 25 birds out of 30, owing to unusual weather conditions. The club recently flew another successful young birds’ race from the north, the birds being Pleased from Parnassus against a strong head wind. The'winning bird, Mr T. Campion's Taxpayer, flew the distance In 2 hours 36 minutes. The results were:—T, Campion’s Taxpayer, 883.8 yards a minute; H. Ford’s Omega, 881.3 yards a minute; A. Wright’s Sporting Lass, 881.1 yards a minute; W. Wright’s Dottrell, 858.8 yards a minute: L. and C.. Ford’s Fairy Maid, 857.6 yards « minute.
