EXCURSION AND PICNIC TRAINS
BIG DEMAND FOR RAILWAY CARRIAGES More than 500 persons, in two flßfcr booked trains travelled to the W«£ Coast yesterday on an excursion trip. The return trips brought the axcwr* slonlsts back to Christchurch In the early hours of this mornin& the first being due to arrive at and the second hall sin hour later. Saturday was a day of picnics both in Canterbury and the WestCoaat. and rolling stock was fully taxed to supply the accommodation needed. Huy carriages from the Christchurch district were sent to. supply excursion trains In South Canterbury and on toe West Coast Prom Christchurdt U» persons, in the annual picnic of the Woolston Tanneries went to Seftoo, St. 'John’s Sunday School. Pepama. and St. John’s Sunday-School held * combined picnic attended by Set at Stewart’s Gully, and a party at another 100, from Sargood. -San and Ewen’s went to Diamond Harbour. Another total of 170, from the Avonside Girls’ High School went to Corsair Bay. _ „ In South Canterbury 32 raihray* carriages were needed to take the huge numberattending a, picnic, at Timaru, the train coming from Waimafe. and there were also two Sunday school picnics. On the West Coast, the Greymouth combined trades nunc was held at Te Kinga, and the Brunner miners went to Hokitika.
