TREATY DISCUSSIONS WITH EGYPT

The High Commissioner in Egypt, Sir Miles Lampson, will head the British representatives at the AngloEgyptian treaty discussion, which will begin at Cairo on March 2. He will be assisted by Messrs Kelly, Hopkinson, and.Smai’t, of the Residency staff. Admiral Sir William Fisher, Lieutenant-General Sir George Weir, and Air Chief Marshal Sir Henry Brooke Popham will act in an advisory capacity for their respective services. ■ After the formal opening next week the discussions will be • adjourned until about March 9, after the Bairam celebrations. BRITISH LOAN TO FRANCE ♦ MR CHAMBERLAIN’S ASSURANCE (BiUTXSH OFFICIAL WIXVELE9S.) (Received February 26, 7.31 p.m.) RUGBY, February 25. Replying to a question in the House of Commons the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Neville Chamberlain) said that the £40.000,000 loan to France, which had recently been arranged, had his consent. He understood that it was repayable in sterling. Asked whether any precautions were being taken to prevent the credits from becoming frozen, he said that he had no anxiety on that score.
