ROWING

REPRESENTATIVE EIGHTOAR CREW FINAL SELECTION NOT YET MADE The task of selecting a crew to represent Canterbury at the interprovincial eight-oar championships at Wanganui on April 11 has been occupying the Canterbury Rowing Association’s selection committee for some time, and the number of oarsmen with chances of selection has been narrowed down to 13. The committee’s tinal selection will be announced after the Christchurch regatta on Saturday, March 7. The crew will thus have approximately a month for training. The 13 men who have not been eliminated are:—F. Duggan, F. H. Thompson, L. Paterson (Avon), M. Cullen, J. Cullen, C. Smith, W. Richards (Union), D. M. Wright (Cure), C. S. Sutherland, R C. Neville (Sumner-Redcliffs), G. E. East, J. B. Taylor, and T. R. Evans A suggestion that the association should hold an inter-club sports meeting at the end of the season, similar to that held by the Rugby football clubs, was put forward by the Canterbury Rowing Club. The club thought that the use of the Hagley Park Cricket ground might be obtained, and that the events could be divided into classes such as youths, maiden, and so on. The association agreed to place the suggestion before the clubs so that they could express their views. CREWS PROM WELLINGTON VISITORS FOR CHRISTCHURCH REGATTA Advice was received from Wellington by the Canterbury Rowing Association last evening that the Star Boating Clnb hoped to send crews for every start at the Christchurch regatta at Stewart’s Gully on March 7, and that the Wellington Rowing Club was also pending down a number of crews. The Kaiapoi Regatta Committee advised the association that the following officials had been appointed for the Kaiapoi regatta on March 21; —Judges, Messrs F. D. Kesteven, H. C. Revell, J. Winterbourne, and the Rev. W. H. A. Vickery; starter, Mr A. Evans; clerk of course, Mr W, R. Gundy; assistant, jMr L. McAllister; umpire, Mr, R. [..Thompson.
