RESTORATION OF CUTS

"CHURCH LAGGING BEHIND" "The church is not taking a lead in the restoration of cuts which were made during the depression. In this matter it is lagging behind other bodies," said Mr J. M. Thompson, of Wellington, in reporting on the proposals for the new finance committee at the Methodist Conference yesterday. He added that this was a matter which should be attended to; it was said that poverty kept men humble, but he could not men could" devote much time to . their spiritual life when they weije worrying over how to spend their meagre pittances. The report recommended that the conference should appoint a finance committee which should examine the expenditure of church funds and advise on correlation, coordination and any other action that might be needed. The committee to report should consist of the president (the Rev. E. P. Blamires), the vice-president (Mr R. Hampton, convener), the Revs. M. A. Rugby Pratt, A. J. Seamer, A. H. Scrivin, Clarence Eaton, W. A. Burley, and Messrs J. H. Blackwell, W. C. Francis, Frank Thompson, L. G. K. Steven, J. M. Thompson, and H.de R. Flesher. The recommendation was adopted. .
