A WALL OF WATER
SEAMEN KILLED ON SHIP :
‘ PERTH, February 12,
A graphic , description of the' gales which resulted in three men being killed and four others badly injured was given by passengers on the, Ulysses, which has arrived at Fremantle. An eye-witness said: “On the night we.left Liverpool heavy seas damaged the .forecastle. Eight men were deputed to repair the damage. The mate went to the prow and, with a whistle, warned the seamen of particularly dangerous waves. At each ; blast the men dashed back to safety. “When the work was almost completed a tremendous wall of water broke over the men before they could reach cover. They were smashed against the deck, three being killed outright, “The Ulysses made for Swansea, but owing to the huge seas, the bodies and the injured men could not be sent ashore until the next day.”
