BARTER SYSTEM CRITICISED
GERMAN AGREEMENT# (Received February 12, 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, February 11. Mr Dudley Ackroyd, presiding at the Bradford Chamber of Commerce, described wool barter agreements as a menace to trade. They were particularly serious with Germany, whose agreement with South Africa had been renewed, while similar agreements had been made with South American and certain European countries. Germany’s trade was assisted by currency manipulations which amounted to an export subsidy. There were complaints in many quarters that German goods were offered in those markets at below works cost.
