LODGE MEETINGS
A.D. Bro. J. P. Palmer presided over a large attendance of members and visitors at the fortnightly meeting of the Oak of Sydenham Lodge, U.A.O.D. D.P. Bro. W. Stephens was also present. One candidate was proposed for initiation.
P.D.P. Bro. W. Stephens installed Bro. H. G. Stephens as I.G. for the lodge and P.A. Bro. L. C. Schumacher as D.P. for No. 2 district
A motion of sympathy was passed with Bro. W. Purdon in the death of his wife.
The fortnightly meeting of the Ridgely Lodge, No. 36, 1.0.0. F., was held with Bro, F. Mclvor presiding over a good attendance. A period of silence was observed and a motion of sympathy recorded on the minutes, in the death of King George. The North Canterbury Encampment No. 3 advised that the patriarchal degree would be conferred at "its meeting on Wednesday. Two applications were received for membership. The annual balancesheet was presented and showed the affairs of the lodge to be in a very sound position. Gratification was expressed by several members of the manner in which the financial officers kept the books of the lodge. The membership showed an increase to 411. P.G. Bros. L. Bierman and J.- McFarlane were re-elected dispensary,, delegates.
The Pride of Christchurch Tent, 1.0. R., held its fortnightly meeting in the Young Men's Christian Associa-. tion, with the Deputy Ruler, Sister Rowberry presiding, in the absence of the Chief Ruler. A , report of the provincial council meeting was given by Sister G. Bunt, who said that Canterbury had won the competition held in the centenary campaign. Members were also reminded of the juvenile executive picnic held for all juvenile tents, to be held in the Botanic Gardens On February 15. The programme for the year, as drawn up by the officers, was approved. Members were advised that after the meeting on February 3, a moonlight picnic would be held at Brighton, all members to bring their own supper. Tea, hot -water, sugar and milk would be provided. They, were also asked to remember that the tent would meet on this night at 7.30, instead of at 8 o'clock, so that a longer evening could be spent at Brighton.
Several members of the New Brighton Tent were present at the meeting, and were cordially welcomed by the Chief Rulfer. Also present was Sister Russell, of the Sobriety Tent, Dunedin. After the meeting competitive games between the Pride and Brighton were held, resulting in a win for the Brighton teams.
Bro. G. Teale, N.G., presided over the last meeting of Loyal Phillipstown Lodge. The annual balance-sheet showed the lodge to be in a sound position. Every fund showed a credit balance. The district grand master, who was present, congratulated the lodge on its position. He also urged members to support the district picnic to be held at Stewart's Gully on February 2.
