KAIKOURA NEWS
PROCLAMATION OP ACCESSION
The proclamation of the accessionof Edward VIII. was read by. the county chairman (Mr F. J. Monk); at a public gathering held in the county chambers at Kaikoura on Thursday. There was a representative attendance of councillors and of residents of the district, including -Mr H. A. Young, S.M., who adjourned the sitting of the court for the purpose. The Kaikoura Brass Band attended, and at the conclusion of the reading of the proclamation the National Anthem was sung with band accompaniment. The children of the local health camp,, under Miss Cora Wilding, also attended the ceremony. Tennis A party of women from the Kaikoura Tennis Club paid a visit to the St, Michael's Club, and played a series ol friendly matches. The results were, Kaikoura names mentioned first:— Miss M. Wareham and Miss E. Robinson beat Miss K. Smith and Miss Mary Mackle, 6-2; Mrs W. Teape and Mrs E. Morris beat Miss A. Keenan and Miss L. Adair, 6-0; Miss E. Wareham and Mrs Chapman beat Miss K. Keenan and Miss P. Smith, 6-3; Mrs W. Moir and Mrs V. Hughes beat Miss C. Wallace and Miss M. Keenan, 6-3; Mrs B. Norrie and Miss Causby lost to Miss K. Keenan and Miss L Adair, 4-6; Miss E. Robinson and Mrs W. Teape beat Miss M. Mackle and Miss A. Keenan, 6-1; Mrs W. Moir and Miss M. Wareham beat Miss K Smith and Miss P'Smith, 6-4; Mrs Chapman and Mrs Norrie beat Miss C. Wallace and Miss E. Adair, 6-0; Mrs Hughes and Miss Causby beat Miss K. Keenan and Miss M. Keenan, 6-0; Mrs Teape and Mrs Morris beat Miss P. Smith and Miss C. Wallace, 6-4; Mrs Hughes and Miss Robinson beat Miss K. Smith and Mrs Norrie, 6-3.
