THE ARBITRATION ACT

♦ AMENDMENT NEXT SESSION RESTORING POWERS OF COURT [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, January 20. One of the first of the Government's legislative proposals for consideration by the new Parliament early in March will be a bill amending the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act. The Minister for Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, mentioned to-day that his proposals were now in the hands of the law draftsman. The main amendment will re-estab-lish full powers to the Arbitration Court, restoring to woi-kers the right of appeal to the court in settlement of disputes. It is understood that the projected bill will contain several new ideas, but so far the nature of these provisions -has not been divulged. Mr Armstrong also said he now intended to investigate apprenticeship law, the Shops and Offices Aet, and workers' compensation law, with a view to the preparation of legislation. He added that he was ready and willing to receive representations from employers and workers
