At 2.30 a.m. yesterday it was learned that* the King had had several hours of restful sleep. His Majesty, is on a special diet, having been forbidden solid foods; only warm liquids are being given, so that there shall be no unnecessary strain on his heart. * The Privy Council met yesterday at Sandringham to appoint a Council of State. It is emphasised that this indicates no difference in his Majesty's condition. The Council will merely deal with normal matters requiring the King's signature. Anxiety and sympathy continue throughout the Empire and in other countries. Crowds are waiting for hours outside Buckingham Palace for the display of bulletins, in spite of wintry weather; prayers are being offered up in St. Paul's, in Westminster Abbey, and in churches all over the country.
