NGAHAU INCIDENT

MASTER EXPRESSES THANKS Appreciation of the actions of the" residents of New Brighton and Sum* ner when they thought the scow’ Ngahau was in difficulties off New Brighton last Thursday evening i» expressed by Captain George Carey, master of the scow, in a letter he -has sent to “The Press.” Captain Carey writes:— “As master of the scow Ngahau, I wish to express, on behalf of myself, members of the crew, and the. owners of the vessel, my sincere thanks for the goodwill shown by the citizens of New Brighton and Sumner in their wonderful demonstration when it appeared that the vessel was in difficulties off New Brighton on the night of January 16. “The spontaneous efforts of the lifeboat crew, fire brigade, and aD concerned to render any assistance that might be required have* touched us considerably, and we all feel deeply indebted to those who showed, in no mean manner, that our safety was a matter of concern to them. “That the vessel was not in any danger does not detract ip any way from our appreciation and gratitude to all concerned. “To those of us ‘who go down to the sea in ships,’ this demonstration will live long in our memory and wherever sailors foregather the efforts of the citizens of New Brighton and Sumner will be well remembered.”
