The Minister foi; Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) and the Minister for Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb) visited the Kokatahi and Koiterangi districts on Saturday. In the evening they went to Ross, where they received deputations and were entertained at a social gathering. Yesterday they were at Waiho, and to-day will go on to Weheka, returning to Greymouth to-, morrow night. They will leave for Bealey on Wednesday morning, and will arrive in Christchurch on Thursday. Mr Justice Fair (Auckland) went to Timaru yesterday to spend a short holiday with his brother, Mi- J. W. Fair. Mr Arthur Rose left on Saturday night for the North Island. He will be absent from Christchurch for a month. Mr T. Andrews returned to Christchurch on Saturday after a holiday in the West Coast glacier district. Mr H. G. Lane, of the Mayfield Theatre, will leave this morning for Invercargill to superintend the opening of the new State Theatre. Mr J. K. Macdonald, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs Pester, Mount Cook district, during his annual holidays, has now returned to Christchurch. Mr Peter Hockley, general manager for New Zealand of Gordon and Gotch, Ltd., spent the week-end in Christchurch, and will return tonight to Wellington, where he will take up his permanent residence. Dr. Murray A. Falconer, of the Otago Medical School, has been appointed house physician to Lord Horder at the Hammersmith British Post-graduate Hospital. Lord Horder is Physician-in-Ordinary to the Prince of Wales and one of his Majesty’s physicians. Professor E. W. Skeats, a member of the executive committee of the Australian National Research Council, and Professor of Geology and Mineralogy at the University of Melbourne, arrived in Christchurch on Saturday evening from Queenstown. He is on holiday in New Zealand. He will leave to-morrow for the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers. Mr S. G. Dinniss, who for some years has been a member of the literary staff of the Taranaki “Herald,” New Plymouth, is taking up a position on the literary staff of “The Press.” Mr Dinniss was the recipient of a presentation from the staff of the Taranaki “Herald.” The presentation was made by the editor (Mr G. H. Dolby), who wished Mr Dinniss every success in his new position. After 42 years’ service with the New Zealand Shipping Company, more than 20 years of which he has spent in Dunedin as accountant and passenger clerk, Mr A. Hould has retired on superannuation, and he left recently to join the Makiira to-morrow for San Francisco. Mr Hould - intends taking up residence in California. • He will be succeeded by Mr G. E. Hoddinot. of the Wellington staff of the company.
