RAILWAY TRAFFIC
MANY PASSENGERS BY SPECIAL TRAINS Special trains run by the Railway Department yesterday between Christchurch and Timaru and Dunedin and Timaru carried large numbers of passengers. The train leaving Christchurch at 8 a.m. for Timaru carried 590 passengers and the one which left at 9 o’clock carried 520. The first return train in the evening carried 600 and the second 400. The train from Timaru to Christchurch brought 600 passengers and returned with 610. A special train from Dunedin to Timaru carried 500 passengers and returned in the evening with 518, and one from Fairlie to Timaru carried 240 each way.
