KAIKOURA COUNTY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Kaikoura County Council was held recently. There were present Councillors F. J. Monk (chairman), P. S, Humm, T. R. Alexander, H. EccleS, 8, J. Mackle, E. C. Latter, G. D, Smith, Alan Howard, and L. P. Blunt. Mr s. Harris wrote stating that the transformer poles and platform interfered with the view of his new shop buildings, and also with the construction of the veranda. He asked that moving the poles be considered. The cost of moving the poles was reported by the electrical department to be £25 7s 6d. It was .agreed that the matter be held in abeyance, ~ Mr L. C. McLeod wrote enclosing a plan of a new slaughterhouse on his
property, and applied for a water permit license. The application for the Slaughterhouse will be referred to the health inspector ahd the stock inspector, The Chief Electrical Engineer, Wellington, who visited Kalkoura recently and inspected the electrical equipment, wrote calling attention to certain matters that required rectifying. The matter was referred to the local electrical engineer (Mr TV H. O’Donnell), who was also appointed electrical inspector. Mr P. M. Kerr was appointed dog lax collector on the same terras as last year, Wednesday was fixed as the Statutory half holiday. It was reported that Mr W. Bowhill had been appointed caretaker for the new motor camp buildings at the show
grounds, and that the fees had been fixed at 2s for, the first night and day and Is for each other day,, with a 25 per cent, reduction to members of automobile associations. The Caretaker was entitled to 25 per cent, of the fees collected. In reply to a question the clerk said the cost-of the building would exceed the original sum,' because of the provision of many extras. The chairman’s henqrarium was fixed at £75.
Mr Humm asked that the junction of Postman’s road with the main Waiau road be improved by cutting back manuka scrub and that ' attention be given to clearing the bend. The suggestion was agreed to. In reply to Mr Howard’s request that metal up ,to 300 yards*, be placed on the Blue Duck road, the chairman said there was a considerable amount of metalling to do, but consideration would be, given to the job when other metalling jobs had been finished. - The paysheet showed the general account to be £2294 18S 2d, Which included Hospital Board levy of £l2l 7s, and the electrical account was Bfeewa at £6l 2s IQd, „
