NEW SOUTH WALES STATE ORCHESTRA
■ — —- possible visit to new ZEALAND ‘ A suggestion has been made that the New South Wales State Orchestra should Visit New Zealand, and the possibility of a tour is being investigated. Mr Roland Foster, of the New SoUth Wales State : Conservatdriunl of Music, said last evening that Mr H. Gladstone Hill, of Christchurch, had' discussed with him and with Dr. E. Bainton, head of the conservatorium, the possibility of having the orchestra Visit New Zealand. So far the proposal was very much in the air, and if .it Were practicable it would have to be submitted first to the New South Wales Minister for Education before permission for the orchestra to leave Australia could be obtained.
Mr Gladstone Hill was the organiser and manager of the tour of the New South Wales State Orchestra in 1920, under the direction of Mr Henry Verbrugghen. If the visit this year can be arranged it will probably be made in September. In May of this year the Conservatorium,' Sydney, will celebrate- its tWehty-first birthday, and great preparations are being made for this event. Dr. Bainton, as principal of the institution, has' extended to Mr Gladston Hill an invitation to be present. It was hoped, by that time, to complete the arrangements for the proposed tour. In the meantime Mr Gladstone Hill is studying details with Mr Roland Foster, who will report to the director on his returfi to Sydney. Dr. Bainton will consult the Minister for Education on his return about the first week in February.
