MAN KILLED BY LIGHTNING

CYCLONIC STORMS IN QUEENSLAND V. . ,

BRISBANE, January 18,

Alfred Stewart, aged 35, was struck by lightning and killed instantly near Lowood during a terrific cyclonic storm which broke over southern Queensland. /

Houses in the suburbs of Brisbane and in the country were unroofed and flooded, and the telegraph and telephone services were disorganised.

In the Woodford district the storm tore a track two and a half miles through the bush. One "half of Woodford escaped, but in the other half nearly every building was damaged. The roof of an hotel in the main street was lifted bodily and deposited a hundred yards away. The Church of England was blown down.
