Dr. John Mackenzie, formerly of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Christchurch, and ppwtof Toorak, Melbourne, is visiting the; Dominion on holiday, and is at present, the guest of his brother, Mr if, Mackenzie, chairman of the Geraldine County Council, at Geraldine. . ‘ In 1914, just before the outbreak -of the war.Dr. Mackenzie was called to the Toorak Presbyterian Church In Melbourne, a position he istill holds. From May. 1931, to May, 1935—during the centenary celebrations—he was Moderator of the Presbyterian Church jbf. Victoria, andduring his moderatorship, the Glasgow' University, Scotland, conferred on him the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity. "At present Dr. Mackenzie is chairman of the Board of Education of the Presbyterian Church of .Victoria, and also chairman of the Board of Religious- Education of the Presbyterian Church of' Australia. - 1 Dr. Mackenzie, was born in Geralne»; - recfi i v ed bis first education at'the Geraldine School and Timaru Boys'-High School, and later Canterbury College and the University .of Otago and Theological HalL Jla completed his studies at New College, Returning to New Zealand ii* r 188, Dr. Mackenzie became minister- of the Thames Presbyterian Dhurch for five years, and of St. Andrew’s Church, Christchurch, for 14 jyears. i ’ Dr,. Mackenzie will leave Geraldine ■ Christchurch at the beginning of 4his week, and after a brief visit will return to Dunedin, where his wife and . wugbier.are spending a holiday.
