THE BUTTER MARKET
TO THU IDITOB OF , TXB F 1139. Sir,—l would like to ask Mr Agar or Mr S. J. Smith a simple question. Wasn’t the Dairy Control Board established for the protection of the dairy farmers in New Zealand? And also, why is it that it has allowed this price cutting to go on so long? Now I should think that it could have had a sliding scale of the price of butter from month to month, so making it reasonable for both consumer and producer. Should any factory violate the prices fixed by the board. I think that it should be dealt with severely by means of a substantial fine. By this means each factory could sell its own butter on its merits without the evils of pricecutting. Another question I should like to ask Mr Agar, if he could inform me, is what other positions the secretary of the Dairy Board is hold-ing?--Yours, etc., W. G. SHACKED. Springs&n, December 12, 1935.
