OBITUARY
MR FRANK SWALLOW The death occurred suddenly at Christchurch recently of Mr Frank Swallow, of Division street, Riccarton, at the age of 67. Mr Swallow was leading storeman at the Addington railway store from 1911 until his retirement in November, 1929. In 1897 he joined the railway service at Timaru, in which town he was born, and served there for eight years, and was then transferred to the stores branch at Newmarket. From Newmarket he was appointed to the position of leading storeman at Addington. . Mr Swallow was well known m the railway service as an extremely capable and courteous officer, and was very popular with all with whom he came in contact. . For several years he was an enthusiastic member of the United Bowling Club. He was also actively associated with the Ancient Order of Foresters, both in Timaru and in Christchurch. . , . Mr Swallow is survived by his widow, two sons, Messrs E. H. and H. W. Swallow, both of Christchurch, and two grandchildren. The funeral, which was held at the Bromley cemetery, was very "well attended, especially by members of the United Bowling Club. The death has occurred of the veteran cricket umpire, Mr Robert Crockett, who held a world’s record in that he had umpired 32 test matcher He was 72 years of age.
