SCHOOLS’ RACE CHRIST’S COLLEGE BEATS CREW FROM WANGANUI The Christ’s College four scored a convincing win over a crew iron* Wanganui Technical College, when the annual race was rowed over a mile on the Canterbury Rowing Association's course on the Avon river yesterday. The Christ’s College crew were superior both in weight and strength, and they rowed very well together. At no stage during the race was the winning crew extended —not even in the sprint at the end. They established an early lead and had no trouble in keeping ahead the whole way. The average weight of their crew was list 101b, while the average weight of the Wanganui oarsmen was only lOst 121b. almost a stone difference. The following were the erews:— Christ’s College—A T. Johns, stroke (10-121: XB.fi. nrhall 02-2). X. Du

J. Holderness (12-8), P. H. Tovey, bow (10-12); coxswain, J. Clark-Hall. Wanganui Technical College—A. Manning, stroke (10-6), T. Takarlngl (12-3), D. Breton (10-7), X Godwin, bow (10-2); coxswain, C. Johnson. Both crews went away well from a good start, Wanganui having chosen the north side of the river. Christ’s College went into the lead at the first bend, however, and at the Swann's road bridge were leading by. a clear length. They soon increased this advantage to two lengths, but the big bend to the right at the half-mile brought Wanganui within half a length of the College crew, ' * - I '-" Going up to the Stanmore *oad bridge the College crew again drew out, and bad a clear length andca half when , the bridge was passed. The Wanganui crew sprinted valiantly, but College, who had strength in reserve, won by a good two lengths. - The winning crew was coached by Mr A J. Dunn.
