♦ POLITICAL MOTIVE IMPUTED SEQUEL TO ATTACKS ON STATE GOVERNOR (Received December 10, 9.15 p.m.) ST. PAULS (Minnesota), Dec. 9. A political assassination of national significance took place to-day, when an assassin fired three times from ambush and killed Mr Walter Liggett, the editor of the “Minneapolis Midwest American.” For months, Mr Liggett, who was one of the nation’s leading radical publicists, had been engaged in a bitter editorial campaign against Mr Floyd Olson, of the Farmer-Labour party, Governor of Minnesota, who was frequently mentioned as a possible third party candidate for the Presidency. In bitter leading articles, Mr Liggett accused the Government of corruption and of shielding gamblers and criminals. Recently Mr Liggett was assaulted and beaten by thugs, but he continued the campaign. His assassination to-day was similar to the murder a year ago of another editor, Mr Howard Guildford, who had also attacked the state administration
