LINDBERGH BABY CASE

HAUPTMANN SAID TO BE INNOCENT INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION BY DETECTIVE (Received December 9, 7.5 p.m.) MONTREAL, December 7. A message from Trenton (New Jersey) states that there was another sensational development in the Hauptmann case to-day, when the Governor of New Jersey, Mr Harold G. Hoffman, announced that Mr Ellis Paiker, a prominent American detective, was personally convinced that the convicted man was not guilty of kidnapping the Lindbergh baby. Mr Hoffman's predecessor had apparently engaged Mr Parker to make an independent investigation. The latter did not have access to the evidence collected by the State police, Mr Hoffman stating that he had been "blocked in his efforts by the State police."
