OWNERSHIP OF MACHINES

SUPREME COURT ACTION The ownership of 17 automatic franking machines, valued at £3OO, was disputed in an action which came before his Honour Mr Justice Northcroft in the Supreme Court yesterday. The plaintiff was Edward Horatio Fountain, company manager, of Wellington, and the defendant C. R. Hawkins, Ltd., of 370 Montreal street, Christchurch, manufacturers of postal franking machines. Fountain claimed that C. R. Hawkins. Ltd., had detained 17 automatic franking machines which were his property. Ten of these machines were valued at £25, three at £lO, and four at £5 Alternatively to possession, Fountain claimed £3OO, being the total value of the machines. After hearing long argument by both counsel, his Honour adjourned the case until this morning, suggesting that the parties in the meantime should see if it were not possible to come to an agreement. °Mr M. 6. Barnett, of Wellington, appeared for Fountain and Mr J. H. Upham for C. R. Hawkins. Ltd.
