GREYMOUTH I • INTER-CLUB TENNIS (SPECIAL TO THE PRESS.) GREYMOUTH, December 9. In an inter-club tennis match, played on Saturday in ideal weather, United had an easy victory over Runanga in both the A and B divisions. The A match was won by United by 15 sets (130 games) to 1 set (63 games). The details, with the United players first in each case, were:— Men's Singles—R. Kear beat S. Kennedy 9-3; P. Warnes beat W. Amor, 9-0- 'A. McKay beat A. Winstanley, 9-7; C. Burley beat R. Murray, 9-1. Women's Singles—Mrs J. Cassels beat Miss M. Tyson, 6-5; Miss M. McKay lost to Mrs E. O'Neill, 4-6; Miss E. Boddy beat Mrs R. O'Neill, 6-0; Miss D. Blair beat Mrs Mintoft, 6-3. Mens Doubles—Kear and Warnes beat Kennedy and Winstanley, 9-5; McKay and Burley beat Amor and Murray, 9-3. Women's Doubles—Mrs Cassels and Miss McKay beat Miss Tyson and Mrs E. O'Neill. 9-7; Misses Boddy and Blair beat Mesdames R. O'Neill and Mintoft, 9-6. Mixed Doubles —Kear and Mrs Cassels beat Kennedy and Miss Tyson, 9-8; Warner; and Miss McKay beat Amor and Mrs E. O'Neill, 9-2; McKay and M:iss Boddy beat Winstanley and Mrs R. Cricket Competitions The West Coasl Cricket Association's club competitions were continued over the week-end in beautifully fine weather. In the Saturday competition United A gained a two-point win over United B. Batting first., United B made 6.3 <G. Simmonds 19, G. Peek 13). United A replied with 83 (Rapley 47>. Bowling for United A Hooper took three for 4 and for United B Simmonds took six for 30. United B had lost six for 47 at stumps (D. Jarvis 30 not out). Hooper took three for 13 „and Carr two for 7. Also in the Saturday competition Marist scored a two-point win over Cobden. Cobden made 107 (D. Knapp 30. A. Vaughan 26). O. Morris took seven for 43. Marist replied with 170 tN. Bayley 34, J. Mathews 36, F. Murray 27 not out. J. Cornish 23). J. Guy took four for 58. Cobden B beat Marist by five runs en the first innings in the Sunday competition. Batting first Cobden B mad elso (J. Calder 42, Pentecost 30, Spaan 17). Marist replied with 145 <N. Bayley 71, O. Morris 34). Bowling for Marist O. Morris took four for iO and F. Bayley three tor 32, while for Cobden B Pentecost tfok five for 25. At Dunollie yesterday Marist B gained a two-point win over Runanga. Marist opened with 115 runs (Mathews 58) and Runanga made only 84 (Greening 25, Hall 16). In its second innings Marist B had made 83 for the 'oss of eight wickets at stumps (E. Casey 19). Bowling for Runanga Smithson took six for 27 and Timlin three for 13. For Marist Mathews took for 40 and Cornish four for Personal Mr Harold Prescott left to-day for Wellington and Auckland, having been engaged by the Choral Societies of each city to sing the tenor role in Handel's "Messiah." He is also under engagement to the Broadcasting Board. Dr. A. W. Wilkinson has left on a short visit to the North Island. Miss Una Murray left to-day on a visit to Christchurch. Mr J. Richardson, of Christchurch, is visiting Greymouth. Yachting Two races were sailed on the Grey river yesterday by the Greymouth Regatta Club. The results were:— Restricted Wakatere Class (two laps)— Walrus (R. Blacktopp and G. Messenger), 15sec behind, 1; Wai Wurrie (N. Smith and Bellamy), scr, 2; Albatross (McDonald and Donovan), scr, 3. Seven boats competed. Winner's time, 51min 15sec. Open Handicap (two laps)—lraq (Jackson and McMillan), lOmin 15sec, 1: Walrus (Blacktopp and G. Messenger), 9min, 2; lanthe (E. Smith, W. Messenger, Webber), scr, 3. Ten boats competed. Winner's time, 60min 15sec. Warm Weather Yesterday was the hottest day experienced so tar this summer, the thermometer registering about 70 degrees throughout the day. The beaches and other bathing places were well patronised.
