BOY SOPRANO HONOURED
PERFORMANCE BEFORE HERR VICTOR GOMBOZ Kenneth Mackwell, whose sopi-ano voice impressed those who attended the queejn carnival coronation ceremony in October, has had the honour of singing before the director of the Vienna Boys' Choir, Hei*r Victor Gomboz, and Madame Marsi. Madame Marsi described his voice as an excellent one of wonderful quality, with a tone that was pleasant at all times. She was greatly impressed also with his technique and production, and considered his the finest boy's voice she had heard in New Zealand. Kenneth Mackwell could expect to retain his voice for about two years, Madame Marsi said, after which it would be a matter for conjecture whether he would be a tenor, baritone, or bass. It frequently happened that after a brilliant career as a singer a boy was unable to sing again once his voice changed. The boy singer is well known in Christchurch. He first attracted attention through his performances in the music competitions, and his most recent success was his singing at the queen carnival crowning ceremony. He is a member of St. John's choir, Latimer square, under the conductorship of Mr Claude Davies. His teacher is Mrs Madge Brown.
