ORATORY CONTEST

BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL SPEAKERS The third annual oratory c6ntest of the Christchurch Boys' High School, held in the Little Theatre, Canterbury College, was won by F. O'Flynn. The subject was, "A Pioneer New Zealand Missionary," and the six finalists were: T. G. Scarff (Samuel Marsden), A. B. Allen (Samuel Lee), M. J. Hoffmann (Bishop Harper), E, K. Macleod (Bishop Selwyn), C. W. KentJohnston (Henry Williams), and F. O'Flynn (Bishop Harper). The judge (Mr A. M. Hollander) congratulated the competitors on the high standard of their speeches, and after discussing the points 011 which he had based his decision, declared F. O'Flynn the winner. Mr G. J. Lancaster, headmaster of the school, presided over a large (attendance of boys and parents.
