NORTH CHINA MISSION
* ANNUAL MEETING HELD The report and balance-sheet of the North China Mission Society, which were adopted at the annual meeting yesterday afternoon, showed that during the year £784 8s 4d was raised in New Zealand for the mission and that Christchurch had contributed £192 12s 4d of this amount. Bishop WestWatson presided over the meeting, and the report was presented by the chairman of the committee, the Rev. C. W. Maclaverty. The bishop said that it. was a privilege to be linked with China, which was one of the great countries of the Pacific. It was likely that the centre of interest would be found in the Pacific in the future, and the destinies of China would probably be closely linked with those of New Zealand. It was necessary, in these circumstances, that the bonds made by the Christian Church should be drawn closer. New Zealand and Australia were the outposts of the Anglican Church in the Pacific, and it was a duty to help China in her distress. It was clear that China was engaged in a struggle and was meeting extraordinary difficulties, both internal and external. Help should be given by this country and its Church so that China might achieve the unity which was vital to the peace of the Pacific and of the world. The following officers were elected: President, Bishop West-Watson; honorary secretary, Miss L. G. Cameron; committee, Dean Julius, the Revs. C. W. Maclaverty, Canon C. Perry, G. N. Watson, K. Schollar, H. G. Sell, and R. Taylor, Sister Kate, Mrs W. C. Joughin, Misses R. and A. Papprill, V. Gardiner, and C. G. Hurst.
