* PERSONAL Mr S. E, Shayle-George returned yesterday morning from a holiday visit to Sydney. Harbour Light Theatre A revelation of the inner workings of a metropolitan police force, in tracking criminals, especially blackmailers, is made in the murder mystery film 'From Headquarters," which will be screened at the Harbour Light Theatre this afternoon and evening and tomorrow evening. George Brent, Margaret Lindsay, and Eugene Pallette head the cast. The short subjects include a musical revue, a newsreel and a Melody Master. ' ' Licensing Committee The quarterly meeting of the Lyttelton Licensing Committee was held at Lyttelton yesterday, present Messrs E. C. Levvey, S.M. (chairman), >V. T. Lester, F. Davis, D. Mcßae, R. Orton Bradley, and W. Wales. An application for a transfer of the license of the Lyttelton Hotel from Neil Samuel Brooks to Ninna Armitage was granted. Sailing The second race in the Sanders Cup trials will be sailed at Lyttelton on Saturday afternoon over a triangular course. Following is the draw for boats for the second race in the Cornwell Cup trials, to be held at Lyttelton on Saturday afternoon;—Maperu, B. MassonEcho, F. I. Sutton; Falcon, L. Beaumont; Sandy, J. Dowell. The Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club will hold the second of three sailing races for I class boats, for the Norris Challenge Cup, on Saturday afternoon, also a race for oldtime skippers in A and B class yachts. Magistrate's Court Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. For being on the licensed premises of the Lyttelton Hotel after hours Charles Olley, Gordon Cain, Joseph James Gallagher, George Arthurs, and Albert Sanders were each convicted and fined 10s. Huia Coppen, for failing to give way to traffic on the right, was convicted and fined 20s and costs. Children's Court At a sitting of the Children's Court, over which Mr Levvey presided, two boys were charged with damaging a shelter-shed at Diamond Harbour to the extent of £l. Sergeant D. Wilson said that the boys, who came from Christchurch, had been spending the week-end at Diamond Harbour and had damaged the shed, which was owned by the Lyttelton Borough Council. The total amount of the damage was estimated to be £3 10s. The boys were admonished by the magistrate, and discharged.
Young Women's Christian Association The monthly committee meeting of the Lyttelton branch of the Young Women's Christian Association was held yesterday afternoon, all members being present. Mr G. Taylor, secretary of the flower show committee, gave details of the schedule to be used at the gladiolus shows, which will be held I at the end of January. The winner of the bed jacket competition was Mrs • R. Norton. Dance Pupils Entertained i Children attending the dgnce classes of Miss Doris Swaby spent a happy time in the social hall of the Seamen's Institute last evening, when they were the guests of Miss Swaby at a fancy dress party. Games, competitions, and dancing were held and the following gave Items: — Marie Collins, recitation; Gwenda Miller and Lorna McDonald, songs; Lylla Willinnn, character dance. A lucky-spot waltz was won by Gwitha Miller and June Elsom. Accompaniments and music for the dances were played by Mrs C. Pocock. The young people present were Lorna Smith.
