ACCLIMATISATION WORK

SOUTH CANTERBURY SOCIETY HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING (SPZCIAXi TO THX PRESS.) TEMUKA, December 3. The council of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society met at Temuka on Monday evening. There were present Messrs J. McDonald (chairman), H. J. Washer, H. Loomes, W. M. Metcalf, H. G. Ellis, 'J. H. Smillie, J. Stevens, B. Triggs, T. M. Lucy (treasurer), and B. Hughes (secretary). The council resolved to apply to the Canterbury Land Board to have the area of five acres, at Scott's Creek Reserve vested in the Alexandrina Domain Board. The Ashburton society notified that it was applying for an open game season of one month for both paradise duck and pukeko with a limit of 10 head a day. The letter pointed out that pukeko were becoming very numerous and were doing extensive damage. An extension of the seven days' se'anon for paradise duck and pukeko was alpo desired. It was agreed to apiply to the Department of Internal Affairs for another season of one month for pukeko and paradise duck with a bag limit of 10 for the former and five for the lat-' ter; also to apply for a season of two months with a bag "limit of 10 a day for quail. The Wellington society advised that the enquiry made into the method of Conducting eeling competitions had been referred to the South Canterbury Anglers' Club. It was resolved to grant £2 2s to the club for an eeling competition if one were organised. The treasurer reported that the society's credit balance was £494 19s 6d. The curator-ranger (Mr F. W.
