IMPORTATION OF CATTLE

AMENDED REGULATIONS IN AMERICA REQUIREMENT OF TUBERCULIN TEST CERTIFICATE All cattle offered for importation into the United States of America from any country other than Mexico, must in future be accompanied by a satisfactory tuberculin test certificate. The certificate is to be from an official veterinarian of the country of origin. This applies to all cattle except those that are for immediate slaughter, ana the regulation will be enforced from January 1, 1936. Importations from Mexico are governed by special regulations. The ruling, as an amendment to the former regulations, has been sent to American Consular officers from the bureau of animal industry of the Department of Agriculture. . A subsequent tuberculin test, except for those animals which are for immediate slaughter, will be made W an inspector at the port of entry during the last 10 days of quarantine. This will apply to cattle from, any part of the world but Canada, the Channel Islands, or Mexico. The tuberculin test certificate for beasts from the Channel Islands must be from the official veterinarian of the island from which the cattle were shipped. All cattle aged six months or more, from countries other than Mexico—except cattle for immediate slaughter, all steers and splayed heifers, and cattle far grazing or feeding which are not of a dairy or breeding typeare to be subject to the following requirements:—(a) They must be certiIficated by a veterinarian of the [national government of the country of origin to show that the animals were subjected to a blood test for infectious abortion, with negative results, withm 60 days of the date of their .exportation. The certificate must give the date and the place of testing, names of the consignor arid consignee, and a description of the cattle, with breed, ages, and markings, (b) Or in special cases cattle not being certificated may be quarantined and "tested at the port of entry. Those not passing the test will not be allowed to enter. Unless they, are returned to the country of origin, they will be disposed of.
