Mrs Herbert Acton-Adams (Tipapa) and Mrs Frank Scott (Gloucester street west) will leave on Thursday for Picton, on their way to Hawke's Bay. Mrs Mansfield Gibson (Lees Valley), and Miss Maty McLean (St, Andrew's . square) will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow morning, after attending the investiture and reception at Government House on Monday, night. Miss B. Nancarrow (Armagh street west) returned yesterday from Dunedin, where she attended . the wedding of her niece on Saturday. . Mrs C. C. Mosley (Greymouth), who has been the guest of Mrs Harris (Kilmore street) while attending the girl guide conference, has returned home. Miss Margaret Johnstone (The Hossack, Hanmer Springs), who has been visiting her grandmother, Mrs "'" T. S. Johnstone, Riccarton, will return home to-day. On Saturday she Will go to visit Miss Marjorie Sutton, Glynn Wye. Mrs Robert Hutcheson (Lower Hutt, Wellington) is the guest of Mrs P. Dalrymple, Fendalton. j Miss Betty Ladd, senior Brown Owl for Canterbury, has received many congratulations on the excellence of the picturesque item "The Coming* of Spring," presented by the brownies at the girl guide gar- ■ den party at Cashmere House on Saturday. She herself.thought out, planned, and arranged the tableau, which was a great success. It will be recalled that on the occasion of the visit of Lady Baden Powell to Christchurch, Miss Ladd arranged an effective spectacular item. At a social held by the Home 1 Service Association's Girls' Club, last night, tribute was paid to the untiring work of Mrs H. C. Hewland (the club's founder) in the interests of the girls. The kindness she had shown and the interest she 1 had displayed had been greatly ap- | predated by the girls, said Mrs Kent-Johnston. Reference to the death of Mrs G. ■ E. The Students' group exhibition to be held shortly by the Julian Ashton School of Art in Sydney will ; contain three landscapes by a New Zealand artist, Miss Ethel Jones, of Wellington, and formerly of Auckland, who has been requested by Mr Ashton to send some of her work. This is the first time that any student in New Zealand has ] been offered an opportunity of ex- '• hibition at a collection of work by all 1 students of the various art schools i in Sydney.
