Wrestling 1 Owing to neither of the contestants putting in an appearance, the professional wrestling match between Glenn Wade and Lofty Blomfleld, which was to have taken place in the Town Hall on Saturday night, had to be cancelled at the last moment. The Boxing Association was not aware that the bout was off until the wrestlers failed to arrive by the Christchurch express, and as a result a large number of country people were already in town to see the match before they could be advised that it would not take place. The late cancellation of the bout meant a loss of about £2O to the association, and the matter will probably be taken up with the controlling body. Cricket

After a series of wet Sundays, yesterday was beautifully fine, being practically the first summer day experienced this year. As a result many were attracted to the beaches, and the swimming season was begun in earnest. The 460 excursionists from Christchurch, 300 of whom went further south, had.an ideal day in which to appreciate the scenic beauties of South Westland. However, a southerly breeze kept temepartures down, and most of those on the beaches prefered to sun-bathe rather than go into the water.
