(BASKETBALL CLUB D'ANCB
The Kaikoura Basketball Club held an end-of-season dance and presentation of trophies in the band room, Kaikoura. There was a good attendance, and music for dancing ; was played by Misses Mary Mackle, Ruth Chapman, Mary Clemett, Mrs E. Dabr inette, Messrs R. McKenzie and J. K. Chapman. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Misses Phyllis Smith and Brenda Keehan. The winner of the lucky door number was Mr Eric Monk. Mr J. K. Chapman, president, presented the Ferkin Cup to the Kaikoura B team, winner of the B grade Kaikoura competition, the Kaikoura Club cup to the Convent team, winner of the schools' competition, and a special cup, presented by Miss E. Mounsey, to the Suburban School team. Supper was served. Mr Ivan Gill was master of ceremonies. Weather Figures
The following official figures -of the 'weather in Kaikoura for November are supplied by Mr E. W. Flower:— Total rainfall, 4.30 inches; maximum fall, 0.84 inches on November 12 and 25: number of days on which rain fell, 12. For the same period last year the figures were:—Total rainfall, 0.73 inches; maximum fall, 0.29 inches on November 14; number of days on which rain fell, 7. Tha early part of the month was noticeable for continual rain, and a further storm on November 25 increased the total,fall, besides bringing a very cold snap, with snow oh all the ranges. Shearing was interfered with. Continual winds during the month interfered with fishing, and it has been very difficult to- obtain supplies, groper being very scarce. The main catches consisted of ling. A certain amount of trawling for flat fish is proceeding In the front bay. Few butterfish have been caught off the rocks, the weather being too cold for the fish to come close inshore. The wet weather and the ample feed have given a fillio to the dairying industry, a record production month being experienced. A little business has .been done in lamb buying. Cricket Match A club cricket match was played on Saturday at the domain between teams selected b- F. Hobbs and W. McLennan. Hobbs's team, batting first, made 136 runs, Barker, 87, batting well. Grant, 21, was the only other batsman to score double figures. Wickets were taken by S. O'Callaghan four for 61, Warner one for 32, and Reid two for 7; McLennan's. team, in reply, made 41 runs, O'Callaghan, 23, being the onlv double-figure scorer. The wickets were taken by Grant two for 22, and Hobbs four for 16.
