POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK

THRIFT AND HOLIDAY FINANCE It was probably a surprise to newspaper readers when they were informed some months ago that the little home savings-bank boxes designed in the shape of a morocco-bound book encouraged the accumulation of no less a -sum than £70,000 in one year. The latest figures regarding the children's pence show that this result was not exceptional, for, during the current year, the amount deposited from post office home savings banks has averaged about £7OOO per month, or about £BO,OOO per annum. Another post office savings bank facility which will interest holidaymakers who travel is the issue of letters of credit to depositors, enabling them to withdraw money without notice at all post offices where savings bank business is transacted.- In the last holiday season, December, 1934, till the end of February, 1935, this service was rendered to 1504 depositors and. represented a cash turnover of £27,707.
